This past semester, I have failed many times. I have attempted to obtain an internship for the summer of 2020 through Career Showcase and emailing a lot of recruiters and just networking in general. I received many interview offers from firms, but even though I prepped a lot for these interviews, I tend to always fall short of the job offer, unfortunately. One particular position that I wanted to take was a position in Virginia with Capital One, and after failing their interviews even though I took two days of my time to attend their interviews at the office, I felt very sad and defeated. However, I learned a lot through those interviews such as how professional interviews worked and what interviewers look for in interviewees.
I agree that failure is hard, and that when one fails, they will always learn from their mistakes or else it was just a waste of time. I handle failure by grieving about the fact for about a couple days before I bounce back and analyze my mistakes or weaknesses. I don't think that this class has changed my perspective on failure, but rather my life experience did.

Hi Duc,
ReplyDeleteI can definitely relate to this failure that you have posted about. As someone that in also in the financial sector, I believe that it is very hard to come across jobs and it is even harder to obtain them the first time around. What I have learned though is that it is more important to keep trying and learn from your mistakes. Though it may be hard to see, this process will help you in the long run. Keep trying and thanks for sharing!
Duc,
ReplyDeleteThis kind of thing is always very hard to accept because you cannot see who your competition is, so all you can do is wonder who ended up getting the positions you interviewed for. One of my good friends spent a lot of time preparing for an interview from a career showcase opportunity and even told me she thought she killed it, just to fall slightly short. I think that your strategy of taking a few days to yourself after a failure is very good, and most people would probably not admit they do that or need that.
Hi Duc,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that failing after you’ve put in the work and made it to the interview stage feels bad because you made it so far but didn’t reach the finish line. I think that your style of reflecting in which you do it after a couple days is a good idea. If you reflect immediately after the fact while you are still emotional you may miss something and not learn a crucial fact.
Duc,
ReplyDeleteIm glad that you learned through these failures. It is very important to overcome your failure and learn from them because otherwise you just become sad and always think about the negatives. It sounds like you did a good job with focusing on the positives from these failures which I think is very important. Great post
This is a good post. It is good to look back on your failures to learn from them. Seeing why you failed will help you in the future because you will try not to repeat the actions that led to the failure. I relate to this because I failed in getting a good grade on my first two exams at UF but I learned from them and did better the next time.
