Choosing a segment:
For my segment, I have friends who have tried MDMA and would try MDMA at festivals. One male said that he would buy from a trusted supplier that he knows, another male said that he would consume MDMA from anyone that could supply him, and the last would purchase MDMA inside the festival themselves from black market dealers.
What I learned:
I learned that these people would actually want the service to be available. Two of the individuals that I interviewed actually know of someone who has died from overdoses from these types of illicit drugs and actually would think it is something that could save lives. Often, consumers would always have a fear of what is in their drug, and they believe that the service would give them peace of mind throughout the event. The last person however, does not trust anyone handling their illicit materials, and would rather test the drugs themselves than allow someone else to take a hold of it.
How I would describe this Segment:
I would describe this segment as the entirety of the customer base. There are no other segments that would fall outside the boundary of this service because this pretty much describes all those who consume illicit drugs at festivals.

I also know people very personally that use drugs such as MDMA and others at music festivals. I think that when these people are sober, they would agree with your business idea, that it is beneficial and certainly could save lives. I also think when they are sober they would say they get their drugs in a safe manner, however, from my experience with people who use drugs at festivals, during the event things change. I don't think that someone who is using drugs in the moment would want to hand them over to be tested, and I think that the one person that you interviewed hit the situation right on the head: when these users are there, they will buy from anyone who will supply them. If there was a way to check drugs before people started using, I think this would be more successful. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi Duc,
ReplyDeleteI think you chose a good segment to interview about your product. I find it interesting that the two people who think your service would save lives are the ones who know someone who has overdosed on the drug, while the third person who does not have this experience was very against your idea. I think your service has potential but will run into problems with people not trusting your service with their drugs.
I think that people who are using these drugs should know what is in them. Often times, people might buy drugs that have been laced with other things that they are not aware of or never have experienced. I think this helps both first-time users as well as cautious users of MDMA. Also, people who have a trusted drug dealer that they go to, they might not be as nervous about what is in the drug.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Duc,
ReplyDeleteYou've chosen the perfect segment for your service. I think it's important for your service to understand how willing the customers are to buy drugs from new sources. You've done a good job of interviewing prototypical customers and gaining a better understanding of who your target audience is and what exactly you're offering.
Keep up the great work!
I think it was really good how each of your interviewees in your segment had a different experience or preference with the drug as it was able to show you the spectrum of what your service could provide them to help.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good segment to target. Many people that I know take drugs such as MDMA and other hallucinogenic drugs when they go to music festivals. Maybe eventually you could target all the hallucinogenic drugs that people use to have a larger market. Good start!
ReplyDeleteI think that you have chosen a really good segment for your target audience. Your product specifically applies to a pretty specific group of people,so targeting the right audience is extremely important for your business.
